1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle - PSA EX-MT 6
Starting Bid - $5,000, Sold For - $19,975
Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Extremely attractive, crisp, clean, high-grade example of 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle. One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle's Topps rookie card is the key to the 1952 Topps set, one of the most famous of all cards, and the single most popular and valuable postwar baseball card. This is a magnificent example with brilliant colors. The corners are strong and square, each with only a touch of wear visible under magnification (predominately the upper right). Beautifully centered approximately 60/40 left to right and top to bottom. The faintest hint of a diagonal surface wrinkle (of no consequence, visible only under magnification in bright light and held at the right angle, mentioned only for the sake of extreme accuracy as this could never be seen in a scan or catalog image and may not even be able to be seen in person) can barely be detected in the lower left corner; this has no impact on the card's appearance (it is virtually undetectable) and has no impact on the grade (though may have played a role in keeping this card from grading EX-MT+ 6.5 or NM 7). This is a stunning 1952 Topps Mantle in an extremely desirable grade! A PSA MINT 9 example offered at auction in December 2006 reportedly sold for $282,587. An EX-MT 6 example is far more reasonably valued than higher-graded examples, yet represents an extremely significant cutoff point for condition for this card per the PSA Population Report. As of this writing, of the 965 examples of #311 Mantle graded in the history of PSA, only 113 examples grade higher than PSA EX-MT 6 (not including seventeen qualified examples), and 734 grade lower. It is rare to find such an impressive example of the 1952 Topps Mantle, one of card collecting's most famous and legendary cards, in this extremely desirable condition. This is a card that has consistently appreciated in value over time in all grades. SMR value for the assigned grade is $20,000. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000/$15,000+. SOLD FOR $19,975
