1953 Topps Complete Set Minus One (273 of 274 cards)

Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $7,050

1953 Topps near-complete set of 273 cards (missing just #86 Martin for completion, which is offered separately as its own lot). 20% Nr/Mt, 70% range from Ex to Ex-Mt, and 10% Vg-Ex. This is an extremely high quality near-complete set of 1953 Topps, one of the most popular and classic of all baseball card sets. This beautiful set was extremely carefully assembled long ago by an old-time collector. His active baseball-card collecting days were long over before professional grading became popular but he was always interested in only high-grade sets. This set is one of the most impressive of his collection. We have selected seventeen cards to be graded by PSA. Keys: #1 Robinson (NM 7), 27 Campanella (EX-MT 6), 37 Mathews (EX-MT 6), 41 Slaughter (EX 5), 43 McDougald SP (20/80 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), 54 Feller (EX 5), 61 Wynn SP (VG-EX 4), 62 Irvin (VG-EX 4), 66 Minoso SP (Ex), 76 Reese (VG-EX 4), 77 Mize (EX-MT 6), 78 Schoendienst SP (Ex-Mt), 81 Black SP (Ex-Mt), 82 Mantle (PSA deemed the card had evidence of trimming), 87 Lopat (Ex), 104 Berra (EX 5), 109 Dark SP (Vg-Ex), 114 Rizzuto (EX 5), 119 Sain SP (Ex-Mt), 138 Kell (Vg-Ex), 147 Spahn (EX-MT 6), 149 D. DiMaggio (Ex), 151 Wilhelm SP (EX 5), 162 Kluszewski SP (Ex-Mt), 191 Kiner (PSA deemed the card had evidence of recoloring), 207 Ford (VG-EX 4), 220 Paige (EX-MT 6), 228 Newhouser SP (VG-EX+ 4.5), 244 Mays (PSA Authentic), 246 Face RC (Nr/Mt), 254 Roe (Ex-Mt), 258 Gilliam RC (Vg-Ex), 263 Podres RC (20/80 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt), 264 Woodling (Nr/Mt), 265 Jensen SP (Ex), 273 Haddix RC (Ex), and 280 Bolling (Ex, last card in set). The overall condition of the remaining ungraded cards falls within the Ex to Nr/Mt range. The majority of the cards are Ex-Mt with bright, vibrant colors, and superb gloss. This is an extremely attractive high-grade set of 1953 Topps, far above average for this issue. Total 273 cards. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000. SOLD FOR $7,050
