1920s Signed Exhibit Card Collection (31)

Collection of 31 signed Exhibit cards dating to the 1920s, including three Hall of Famers (Harris, Kelly, and Rixey). Also included are two additional signed Exhibits (Gordon and Mazeroski, dating from circa 1940 and circa 1960 respectively), for a total of 33 signed cards. These cards belonged to a dedicated old-time autograph collector and represent just a small portion of his substantial collection, the balance of which has also been consigned to this auction (presented in over thirty different lots). Unless otherwise noted, all of the signatures appear on the front in either blue or black fountain pen, and range in grade between "8" and "10." For listing purposes, we have grouped the cards by year of issue. 1921 Exhibits: Jack Fourneir (signed on the front and reverse; personalized on the reverse "To Mr. M. E. Malast with Best Wishes"), Hank Gowdy (black fountain pen signature later "gone over" in blue ink), Bucky Harris, Stuffy McInnis, Ivan Olson (personalized "Best Luck to M. E. Malast") and Ken Williams. 1922 Eastern Exhibit Supply Company: Clarence Galloway. 1922-1924 Exhibits: Johnny Bassler (grading "6," light smudging), Joe Bush (personalized "Best regards" and dated "June 21, 1943"), Ray Grimes (grading "7"), George Kelly, Harry Liebold, Walter Mails (signed "Private Major Mails - M. S. Marines"), Lee Meadows, George Moriarty (umpire; signature appears to have been gone over), Joe Oeschger, George "Mickey" O'Neil, Eppa Rixey, Dutch Ruether, Earl Smith (standing; card actually pictures Brad Kocher), Sherrod Smith, George Toporcer, Aaron Ward. 1925 Exhibits: Hank DeBerry and Bob Shawkey (personalized "To a real fan - M. E. Malast, with my best wishes"). 1926-1929 Postcard-Back Exhibits: George Haas and Lefty O'Doul (dated "12/25/47"). 1927 Exhibits: George Daus, Joe Genewich, Pinky Hargrave, and Willie Kamm (personalized "With Best Wishes - To M. E. Malast"). 1939-1946 Salutation Exhibits: Joe Gordon (Yankees). 1947-1966 Exhibits: Bill Mazeroski. The majority of the cards (all approximately 3.25 x 5.25 inches) are in low grade (ranging from approximately Fr to Gd), with the exception of Gordon, Haas, and O'Doul, which are Ex.
