Circa 1930 Babe Ruth Signed Baseball

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $8,225

Official American League (Barnard) ball signed by Babe Ruth across the sweet spot. Ruth's signature is expertly rendered in black fountain pen and grades "8." This ball once bore the signatures of at least four other players on the side panels which have since been professionally removed (a fact that will always be apparent upon examination under special black light but very difficult or impossible to discern with the naked eye). While some purists may look down on such practices, sometimes the means do justify the ends: This is a simply magnificent Babe Ruth signed baseball that has essentially all the qualities one could possibly look for in an ideal high-grade single-signed example. The signature is beautifully rendered and the condition of the ball, which features exceptionally bold manufacturer's stampings, only serves to enhance its outstanding display value. This is an official American League (Barnard) baseball, so this dates the ball to between 1927 and 1931. Given the current market of high-grade Ruth single-signed balls, a ball such as this, which offers the same exact aesthetic appeal as a true single, but at a significant discount to a true single-signed ball, naturally has great appeal to many collectors. This is a beautiful Babe Ruth signed ball! The ball displays moderate soiling and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $8,225
