1938 Mel Ott Signed Photograph PSA/DNA
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,058
Original photograph of New York Giants Hall of Fame outfielder Mel Ott, signed by Ott in black fountain pen. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, which has also deemed the autograph to be "Authentic." Ott's signature has been boldly scripted just to the left of his image and grades "10." The splendid (and very possibly unique) image captures Ott in in his road uniform as he poses with bat in hand during pre-game warmups. Although the photo is undated, it can be pinpointed to the 1938 season based upon the one-year-only uniform style pictured here. Ott batted .311 with a league-leading 36 home runs and 116 RBI in 1938. Ott-signed photographs, especially those dating from his active playing career, have always been particularly rare and are highly prized by collectors. The offered example is exceptional both with regard to its outstanding imagery and quality of the signature. The photo (3.75 x 5 inches) displays light handling wear and is in Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800+. SOLD FOR $1,058
