Nestor Chylak Single-Signed Ball - PSA/DNA 7.5
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $823
Official American League (MacPhail) ball signed and inscribed by Hall of Fame umpire Nestor Chylak. Graded 7.5 by PSA/DNA. Chylak has inscribed the ball in black ink on a side panel "To Michael/Play Hard and Fair/Nestor Chylak/A.L. Umpire." PSA/DNA has graded the signature/inscription "8" and the ball "7," resulting in an overall grade of 7.5. Nestor Chylak single-signed baseballs are extremely rare and represent one of the modern-day virtually impossible-to-obtain “keys” to any complete or world-class single-signed Hall of Fame ball collection. This is only the third example we have ever offered. Chylak was an American League umpire from 1954 through 1978 and umpired in five World Series during his career (1957, 1960, 1966, 1971, and 1977). Unfortunately, he wasn’t elected to the Hall of Fame until 1999, seventeen years after he died at age 59. Since few collectors had occasion to ask for his autograph, his signature today, in any form, is rare and highly prized by Hall of Fame autograph collectors. Chylak's signature on a baseball, let alone a single-signed ball, is one of the great modern rarities of Hall of Fame signature collecting. This is an outstanding Nestor Chylak single-signed ball in all respects and the only graded example we have ever seen, let alone handled. Additional LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $823
