Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris Signed Photo

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $2,115

Classic black-and-white glossy publicity photo (8 x 10 inches) picturing the legendary "M&M Boys," Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris, signed by each player in blue Sharpie across his respective image. The photo is accompanied by a full PSA/DNA LOA in which each signature has also been assigned a grade of "10" by the company. (We fully concur with that assessment, as both signatures are exceptional in their execution.) Many collectors might be surprised to learn that Mantle-Maris dual signed photos are actually quite rare. The primary reason for that is the fact that Maris passed away in 1985, just prior to the "signing-show boom." Unfortunately, the high demand for Mantle-Maris signed photos (as well as balls), coupled with their rarity, has resulted in countless forgeries entering the hobby over the years. Given the large number of problem "Mantle-Maris" photos in circulation today, sophisticated collectors have come to truly appreciate how scarce and desirable authentic examples, such as this, are in today's marketplace. To illustrate that point it should be noted that REA normally receives many Mantle-Maris signed photos for consignment every auction, but this is the first example to pass authentication in over seven years. The photo displays a few extremely light surface wrinkles and is in Excellent condition overall. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and PSA/DNA (cert #J86369). Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. SOLD FOR $2,115
