The DiMaggio Brothers Handwritten Letter Collection: Joe, Dom, and Vince (3)

Collection of three handwritten letters signed, respectively, by each of the three DiMaggio brothers: Joe, Dom, and Vince. Accompanied by a handwritten letter from Bobby Thomson in which he expresses his admiration for Joe DiMaggio. 1) Joe DiMaggio. One-page letter, undated on a cardboard "Scratch Pad," addressed "To Grandpa Pete." In full: "I remember the 'Dutchman's' restaurant. One of the best in the Bronx, and Manhattan. Best Always. Joe DiMaggio." Both the text and signature have been scripted in blue Sharpie and grade "10." Paul Daube's restaurant (1925-1972) was located seven blocks east of Yankee Stadium. Ruth, Gehrig, and later Mantle were regulars at the steak and chops house. 4.75 x 8.5 inches. Ex-Mt. 2) Dom DiMaggio. One-page letter, dated November 22, 1987, written in response to a fan's request. In full: "Didn't really know I was growing up in a baseball family. It all happened unintentionally. Of course, once I became the third member of my family to enter pro-baseball it was fun catching up with the other 2 in the majors & then competing against the Yankees & Joe. Vince was in the National League. Thanks for your letter & the kind words. Best Wishes Dom DiMaggio." Both the text and signature are scripted in blue ink and grade "10." 5 x 8 inches. Ex-Mt, with two horizontal mailing folds. 3) Vince DiMaggio. One-page letter, dated April 19, 1975, not addressed to anyone. In full: "Looking back to my playing career, I thank and Praise the Lord. He gave me the ability to play baseball. One of my many thrills was tying the record of Home Runs with the bases loaded - also playing in the All Star Game of 1943 with a perfect record. All Praise and Glory of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Vince DiMaggio." Both the text and signature have been scripted in blue ink and grade "10." 6 x 8.75 inches. Ex-Mt, with two horizontal mailing folds. Also included with this trio is a handwritten letter, dated May 12, 1989, from Bobby Thomson. In full: "I have always admired Joe DiMaggio. He played the game of baseball with great skill but also with great grace and dignity. Good luck with your class paper. Sincerely, Bobby Thomson."
