Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,819
Official 1983 All-Star Game ball signed in blue ink by the legendary M&M Boys: Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. Mantle's signature, as is customary, sits alone on the sweet spot and grades "9" while Maris' signature, grading "10," occupies a side panel. This is the first Mantle/Maris signed All-Star Game ball we have ever seen. Although there is no documented surviving "story" accompanying the ball, it would seem reasonable to assume that the ball was signed at the 1983 fall classic, held at Comiskey Park in Chicago. 1983 marked the 50th anniversary of the All-Star Game. To celebrate that event, Major League Baseball invited all of the then-living former All-Star Game participants, including Mantle and Maris, to take part in the festivities, the highlight of which was a special Old Timers' Day game, held on July 5th. The ball displays light age toning and is in outstanding Excellent to Mint condition overall. Mantle/Maris balls are among the most desirable of all dual-signed pieces in baseball and the offered ball is both an exceptional and rare example. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,819
