1904 PT-1 Blue Label Cigar Makers Jimmy Collins Pin
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,880
Presented is an extraordinary Jimmy Collins advertising pinback issued in 1904 by Blue Label Cigars. This is one of the all-time great baseball celluloid pinbacks. This extremely rare advertising pin is one of a series of sixteen pins which were issued to honor the victors in the inaugural modern-day World Series: the 1903 Boston Americans. Each pin in the set features a player portrait in black and white surrounded by advertising for Blue Label Cigars. Blue Label Cigar Makers pins are one of the most elusive and fascinating of all early baseball advertising pinback sets. To the best of our knowledge, no complete set has ever been assembled in modern times; and the only complete set in existence, which surfaced over twenty-five years ago, was put together in the year of issue. This example features Hall of Famer Jimmy Collins, one of only two Hall of Famers in the set (the other is Cy Young). Over the years we have seen fewer than five examples. In our opinion, this is one of the best of all baseball celluloid pinbacks. The original back paper on the reverse is intact. Excellent condition. Diameter: 1.5 inches. Disclosure per section 13 of REA's terms and conditions: This lot has been consigned from the personal collection of an executive or employee of Robert Edward Auctions (or a relative of an executive or employee). Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $1,880
