1909 T204 Ramly Tobacco Eddie Plank
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,581
Graded EX+ 70 by SGC. One of only two EX+ 70 T204 Planks ever graded by SGC, with no examples graded higher in the entire population report. Presented is a stunning high-grade example of Hall of Famer Eddie Plank from the prized T204 Ramly series, one of the premier tobacco-card issues of the era. Plank is one of the most desirable cards in the set, both due to his stature as one of the few key Hall of Famers in the set, and the fact that the portrait is the same as that which appears on his famous T206 card. The Ramly series is universally recognized as one of the most desirable of all the tobacco-card issues, appreciated by collectors both for its rarity and distinctive style. Plank is one of only fifteen Hall of Famers in the Ramly Tobacco set. The card is very well centered, with light, even wear on the corners (predominately the bottom left). The portrait is crisp and flawless. (This is of special note as sometimes the portrait images on T204 Ramlys can be light or otherwise flawed.) An outstanding example, clean both front and back, and with a boldly printed reverse. This is a very attractive high-grade example of one of the key tobacco cards of the era and one of the key Hall of Famers from this beautiful and extremely condition-sensitive set. The SMR value for a PSA EX 5 is $2,500. We think the SMR is low on this card. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $5,581
