1913 World Champion Philadelphia Athletics Team Pin
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,410
Outstanding example of the 1913 Philadelphia A's team portrait-montage pinback, one of the most impressive and distinctive of all early baseball celluloids. It is also among the rarest. In all our years, we've seen fewer than ten examples. This extremely unusual celluloid pinback features black-and-white portrait images of twenty-two members of the World Champion 1913 Philadelphia Athletics presented in a montage, including those of manager Connie Mack, Eddie Plank, Frank Baker, Chief Bender, and Eddie Collins. A black background and white border complete the striking design. The A's captured four pennants and three World Championships between the years 1910 and 1914. Financial difficulties forced Mack to sell most of his top players in 1915 and the A's soon found themselves a second-division club for years to come. The images are perfectly crisp and clear. There is some very slight oxidation on the reverse, as is standard with vintage pinbacks; it is otherwise in strong Excellent condition. Diameter: 2.25 inches. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++.
