1921 New York Giants/Yankees World Series Press Pin
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $7,638
Extraordinary ultra high-grade press pin issued for the 1921 World Series between the New York Yankees and New York Giants. Because both clubs called the Polo Grounds home in 1921, only one pin was issued for the Series. The 1921 World Series press pin is one of the rarest press pins from the 1920s (or from any era) and it is seldom found in such exceptional condition. This example is by far the finest we have ever seen, and hails from the collection of a longtime advanced press-pin collector who patiently sought only the very finest examples approaching perfection. The elegant center design features a gold baseball, crossed bats, and the date set against a white enamel background. "World Series Polo Grounds New York Press" is lettered in gold along the perimeter of the blue enamel border. In addition to being rare in any condition, the 1921 World Series press pin is a true condition rarity. The design of the pin makes it particularly susceptible to wear. This example is miraculous, approaching MINT condition, with the enamel on the front essentially flawless, and only slight tarnishing on the reverse. Manufactured by Whitehead & Hoag; brooch. Approximately .75 inches in diameter. Near Mint to Mint condition. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $7,638
