1920s World Series Press Pin Collection (4)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $7,638
Collection of four scare and highly desirable World Series press pins, each dating from the 1920s: 1920 Cleveland Indians, 1925 Washington Senators, 1927 New York Yankees, and 1927 Pittsburgh Pirates. Normally, collectors would always expect to find such rarities offered individually at auction; however, the four examples here share a common anomaly: all feature fasteners that are not original to the piece. (To be clear: the threaded posts on the reverse are original and intact; it is only the fasteners that are not original; they were lost long ago and have been replaced with fasteners from other pins.) While we know that the replacement of the original fastener negatively affects the value of each pin, to what degree is uncertain. This group represents a unique opportunity to acquire four of the key World Series press pins from the 1920s, potentially at a significant discount to what one would normally expect to pay. All of the grades listed here do not take into consideration the replacement fasteners. 1) 1920 Cleveland Indians. Manufacturer unknown; threaded-post back; oval. Diameter: .75 inches. Nr-Mt. 2) 1925 Washington Senators. Manufactured by Dieges & Clust; threaded-post back; oval with scalloped edges. Diameter: 1 inch. Ex-Mt. 3) 1926 New York Yankees. Manufactured by Whitehead & Hoag; threaded-post back; shield design. Approximately 1 x 1 inches. Nr-Mt. Total: 4 pins. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $7,638
