1909 T204 Ramly Tobacco Anderson - Square Frame
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,819
Graded FAIR 20 by SGC. Scarce T204 Ramly "square border" variation card of Chicago White Sox first baseman John Anderson. This is one of three square-frames that were among the highlights of a small but remarkable original-owner collection that included forty-nine T204 Ramlys, four T208 Firesides, fifty T206s, and sixty T205s, all new to the organized collecting world and presented in a total of sixteen lots in this auction. All "square border" variations are extremely rare. Six players in the T204 Ramly set are known to exist with this distinctive square-frame design. Only a few examples of each T204 "square frame" card are known, and each is far rarer than many of the most well known tobacco-card rarities such as the T206 Wagner or Plank. This is a very attractive sample with a crisp, clean portrait image, light wear on the corners, a stain on the top left corner, and a tiny pinhole on the top gold frame. The blank back is relatively clean with just a hint of soiling. This is an exceptional sample of one of the rarest variations from the classic T204 Ramly set. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+.
