1968 Topps Complete Set: #3 PSA Registry! (9.26 GPA)
Starting Bid - $10,000, Sold For - $38,188
Presented is an extraordinary ultra high-grade complete set of 1968 Topps cards. This is by far the finest set of this extremely popular issue we have ever seen or offered. In fact, this is the highest-grade Topps PSA Registry set of any year that we have ever offered! All 598 cards have been encapsulated and graded by PSA. Included are an astounding 170 GEM MT 10s and 428 MINT 9s. A primary classic set such as 1968 Topps is virtually impossible to assemble in these grades. This set is registered as the third highest-graded set on the “PSA set registry” with an average grade of 9.26. The assembly of a complete set with an average grade at this level is simply remarkable. This is a miracle set! The grades for the entire set speak for themselves and can easily be accessed online on the PSA Set Registry under "REA Spring 2011." Highlighted by the rookie cards of HOFers Nolan Ryan and Johnny Bench, this set also includes the extremely popular “combo” cards featuring more than one player, with #480 Superstars (with Roberto Clemente), #490 Superstars (Harmon Killebrew, Mickey Mantle, and Willie Mays), and #530 Bird Belters (Frank and Brooks Robinson). The PSA grades are as follows: 170 cards are graded GEM MINT 10: including #99 Colavito, 145 Drysdale (HOF), 151 Brock (WS Game 1), 294 Schoendienst (HOF), 350 Wilhelm (HOF), 373 F. Robinson AS, 470 Freehan, 480 Manager’s Dream including Clemente, and 530 Bird Belters (Brook and Frank Robinson). 428 cards are graded MINT 9: including #1 NL Batting LDRs, 2 AL Batting LDRs, 3 NL RBI LDRs, 4 AL RBI LDRs, 5 NL HR LDRs, 6 AL HR LDRs, 20 B. Robinson (HOF), 27 Hodges, 37 Williams (HOF), 40 McLain, 45 Seaver (HOF), 50 Mays (HOF), 58 Mathews (HOF), 80 Carew (HOF), 85 Perry (HOF), 86 Stargell (HOF), 100 Gibson (HOF), 103 Sutton (HOF), 107 Checklist, 110 Aaron (HOF), 129 Stanley, 130 Perez (HOF), 140 Conigliaro, 144 Morgan (HOF), 150 Clemente (HOF), 152 WS Game 2, 154 WS Game 4, 167 Howard, 168 Dodgers Team, 177 Ryan (HOF), 192 Checklist, 200 Cepeda (HOF), 205 Marichal (HOF), 220 Killebrew (HOF), 230 Rose, 235 Santo, 240 Kaline (HOF), 247 Bench (HOF), 250 Yastrzemski (HOF), 256 Cash, 257 Niekro (HOF), 280 Mantle (HOF), 290 McCovey (HOF), 310 Aparicio (HOF), 330 Maris, 355 Banks (HOF), 361 Killebrew AS, 363 Carew AS, 364 Morgan AS, 365 B. Robinson AS, 369 Yastrzemski AS, 370 Aaron AS, 372 Brock AS, 374 Clemente AS, 378 Gibson AS, 385 Hunter (HOF), 390 Mazeroski (HOF), 408 Carlton (HOF), 410 Jenkins (HOF), 414 Lolich, 487 May, 490 Super Stars including Mantle, 500 F. Robinson (HOF), 520 Brock (HOF), 528 Tigers Team, 571 LaRussa, and 575 Palmer (HOF). This set has been assembled with great care and an uncompromising commitment to quality over a period of many years, with a concern for all factors, but with a special consideration to centering. The emphasis on condition is evident on a card-by-card basis throughout the entire set. This is literally a MINT set. A review of the incredible composition of this set by grade emphasizes the extraordinary collecting achievement that it represents: 170 GEM MT 10s and 428 MINT 9s. We may never have the opportunity present a Topps set from the 1960s in this incredible condition. This is one of the finest Topps sets from any year ever assembled in the history of collecting. Due to the extraordinary high grade of this set, even communicating the value of the set with reference to SMR is challenging: The total SMR value for the individual cards IF they were all graded PSA MINT 9 would be $39,165; however, as noted, the cards in this set do not grade MINT 9 across the board. There are 170 PSA GEM MINT 10 cards in this set (which when available sell for a significant premium to PSA MINT 9s), and there is no SMR value listed for GEM MINT 10s. Total: 598 cards. Reserve $10,000. Estimate $20,000/$40,000+ .
