1998 Michael Jordan Personally Signed Letter in Upper Deck Display

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $529

In 1998, The Upper Deck Company issued an attractive, limited-edition framed display titled "Mr. June," to commemorate Michael Jordan's extraordinary run of five World Championships with the Chicago Bulls. The highlight of the display, and what made each one unique, was the inclusion of a personally signed letter from Jordan to the buyer of the piece. Offered here is one of those rare display pieces, numbered "214/523." The display is comprised of five color photos of Jordan dating from each of his first five World Championship seasons (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, and 1997), along with the one-page typed letter, dated January 14, 1998, and written upon official Upper Deck letterhead, signed in black ink (grading "10") by Jordan. In the letter, Jordan reflects upon his accomplishments and thanks his fans. In part: Winning my first NBA Championship over the Los Angeles Lakers in 1991 ranks as my personal crowning achievement. Earning that ring with the Chicago Bulls is a moment I will cherish the rest of my life. It compelled me to get to the top against Portland in 1992 and again versus Phoenix in 1993. After we won our third title in a row, I must admit, I was emotionally drained. But the competitive fire returned and that motivated me to help lead the Bulls to back-to-back Championships when we beat Seattle in 1996 and Utah in 1997...The rewards are many, but second to none is the support from loyal fans like you. I hope you enjoy this photo collection with family and friends for many years to come. As fate would have it, Jordan was in the midst of his sixth and final World Championship season with the Bulls when he signed this letter, making it all-the-more exceptional as a display piece commemorating the career of basketball's greatest player. This is a rare and fascinating Jordan signed Upper Deck piece and the first we have ever offered. The letter (8 x 10 inches) and photos (5 x 7 inches) are each in Mint condition. The display measures 27.25 x 22 inches and is accompanied by the official Upper Deck certificate of authenticity. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $529
