1951 Topps Magic Football Complete Set (75)
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $705
Complete 75-card set of the second major football-card series ever issued by Topps, highlighted by Vic Janowicz's rookie card. These colorful cards, honoring college football stars, were issued the same year as Topps’ Connie Mack All Stars and Current All Stars, as well as the 1951 Topps Red and Blue Back baseball sets. This is a very attractive mid-grade set in which all cards are "unscratched" on the back (with a just a few nicks and scratches). Centering issues as seen in this set are the norm for this issue. Keys: #1 Monohan RC (Ex), 2 Wade RC (Ex), 4 Parilli RC (Vg-Ex), 10 Janowicz RC (no right border, otherwise Vg/Vg-Ex), 12 Weatherall RC (no left border, otherwise Ex), 19 Campbell RC (no right border, otherwise Gd), 30 Rechichar RC (Ex), 37 Marlow (Vg-Ex), 48 Young RC (Vg-Ex/Ex), 72 Bright RC (Vg/Vg-Ex), and 75 Carey RC (last card in the set, Vg-Ex). The balance of the cards grade as follows: 43% range from Vg-Ex to Ex (with a few slightly better), and 57% Vg. This is a very scarce early Topps football issue, which has always been somewhat overlooked by collectors, perhaps because the set consists of college players. Total: 75 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $705
