1965 Topps Football Near-Complete Set Including Namath Rookie (169 of 176)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,880
Near-complete set of 1965 Topps Football, one of the most popular and classic of all football-card sets, includes 169 different of the 176 cards in the set, highlighted by Joe Namath's rookie card. Missing only the following seven cards for completion: #14, 22, 39, 54, 69 Blanda, 88, and 108. The 1965 Topps Football set is packed with Hall of Famers, rookies, and extremely tough-to-find short prints. 70% range from Ex to Ex-Mt, 25% Vg-Ex, and 5% Vg. Many cards appear far nicer than their technically accurate grades, and the set presents with a remarkable degree of consistency in terms of condition. Keys: #35 Kemp SP (Vg-Ex), 46 Brown RC (Vg-Ex), 87 Checklist SP (Vg-Ex), 99 Dawson SP (Vg-Ex), 122 Namath RC (SGC EX 60, submitted by REA), 133 Biletnikoff RC (Vg), 155 Alworth (Ex), and 176 Checklist SP (checked, otherwise Vg). The oversized design of the 1965 Topps Football set makes this issue particularly susceptible to damage, and makes the assembly of high-quality sets all the more difficult. This is an exceptionally attractive medium-grade set (minus seven cards), far above average for this issue, with tremendous eye-appeal across the board. A high-quality near-complete set of one of card collecting's most popular football issues. Total: 169 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,880
