1911 T9 Turkey Red Boxing Cabinets Complete Set (26)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,231
Complete set of twenty-six different cards from the classic T9 Turkey Red boxing series, including Jack Johnson, Jim Jefferies, and Abe Attell (who is credited with being the middleman between the gamblers and players involved in the "fix" of the 1919 World Series). Issued in conjunction with the T3 Turkey Red baseball series, the T9 boxing set features twenty-six champion boxers of the day, and is widely considered the most attractive and most desirable of all boxing issues. One card from this set is graded by PSA. Keys: #51 Driscoll (Gd-Vg), 52 Attell (Vg-Ex), 53 Wolgast (Gd-Vg), 54 Coulon (Vg/Vg-Ex), 55 Jim Jeffries (Gd-Vg), 57 Nelson (Pr), 58 McFarland (PSA VG 3), 60 Moran (Gd-Vg), 64 Papke (Fr-Gd), 65 Langford (Vg-Ex/Ex), 67 Ketchell (pinhole at the top, otherwise Vg-Ex), 68 Jeannette (Gd-Vg), 75 O'Brien (tack hole at the top, otherwise Vg/Vg-Ex), and 76 Jack Johnson (Ex appearance on the front but excessive scrapbook remnants on the reverse technically downgrade this card to Pr). The balance of the cards range from Gd to Vg-Ex (with three lesser due to tack holes). This is a very attractive low- to medium-grade complete set of one of the most desirable boxing issues ever produced. Total: 26 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,231
