1958-1959 Topps Hockey Complete Set (66)
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,700
Complete 66-card set of 1958-1959 Topps Hockey, highlighted by the rookie cards of Bobby Hull, arguably the greatest hockey player ever, and Eddie Shack. 70% range from Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 30% grade Ex-Mt (with a few slightly lesser). The 1958-1959 Topps hockey issue in general is very condition-sensitive, but the Bobby Hull rookie card is especially difficult to find in high grade as it was assigned the final card number (#66) of the set. From a very old-time collection, this set has been stored away in a closet for decades, possibly since its year of issue. Three cards have been chosen to be graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). Keys: #2 Sawchuk (25/75 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), 8 Howe (NM 84), 13 Hall (Nr/Mt), 30 Shack RC (NM/MT 88), 36 Pilote (Ex-Mt), 39 Worsley (20/80 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt-Mt), 40 Bucyk (Nr/Mt), 65 Ullman (Nr/Mt), and 66 Hull RC (EX 60). This is an extremely attractive, fresh, crisp, high-grade complete set of 1958-1959 Topps Hockey with many highlights including a particularly striking example of key card #66 Hull. The equivalent SMR value for just the three graded cards (not including the 63 ungraded cards) is $2,150. Total: 66 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $4,700
