1909-1911 E90-1 American Caramel Complete SGC-Graded Set Minus 1 (119/120)

Starting Bid - $5,000, Sold For - $16,450

Extremely impressive near-complete set (119 of 120) of E90-1 American Caramel, all graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). Included are all the many Hall of Famers, extremely rare cards, and variations that make this set one of the most challenging and difficult-to-complete of all caramel-card sets. The only missing card is Joe Jackson. The E90-1 set has long been considered by collectors to be the most significant of all early candy-card sets, just as the T206 White Border set is universally recognized as the most important and popular 1910-era tobacco-card set. This complete set (less one card) has been very carefully assembled by an extremely dedicated longtime collector over a period of many years, and represents a tremendous collecting achievement. The SGC grading report is as follows: Five EX 60: H. Davis, Howell - follow through, Jennings (HOF), Knight, and Tannehill - Chicago AL. Seven VG/EX 50: Dougherty, Isbell, McQuillan, Miller, O'Leary, Stanage, and Stone - no hand. Thirty-two VG 40: Bell, Bemis, Blankenship, Bransfield - P on shirt, Bresnahan (HOF), Bridwell, Bush, Butler, Corridon, Donovan, Dooin, Dygert, Fromme, Gibson - back view, Gibson - front view, Hall, Hartzell - fielding, Irwin, Krause, Lajoie (HOF), Marquard (HOF), Mullin, Overall, Phelps, Richie, Seigle, Sheckard, Summers, Tenney, Thomas - Phil., Tinker (HOF), and Willis (HOF). Forty-five GOOD 30: Bender (HOF), Bliss, Bradley, Bransfield - no P on shirt, Camnitz, Chance (HOF), Chase, Clarke - Phil. (HOF), Clarke - Pitt. (HOF), Clement, G. Davis (HOF), Donlin, Duffy (HOF), Engle, Graham, Grant, Gray, Heitmuller, Howell - wind up, Jordon, Joss - port. (HOF), Joss - pitching (HOF), Keeler - pink (HOF), Keeler - throwing (HOF), Leever, Lobert, Lumley, Mathewson (HOF), McInnes, McIntyre, Mitchell - NY, O'Connor, Schaefer, Schlitzer, Stahl, Stone - left hand, Stovall, Sweeney - Bos., Tannehill - Chicago NL, Thomas - Bos., Unglaub, Upp, Wagner - batting (HOF), Wagner - throwing (HOF), and Wiltse. Twenty FAIR 20: Bailey, Baker (HOF), Bescher, Brown - Bos., Brown - Chi. (HOF), Cobb (HOF), E. Collins (HOF), Crawford (HOF), Demmitt, Groom, Hartzell - batting, Karger, Leach - throwing, Leach - batting, McLean, Mitchell - Cin., Pastorius, Plank (HOF), Shean, and Young - Clev. (HOF). Three PR-FR 1: Barry, Speaker (HOF), and Walsh (HOF). Seven Authentic: Criger, Ellis, Keeler - red (HOF), Oakes, Sweeney - NY, Wallace (HOF), and Young - Bos. (HOF). The consignor has invested a tremendous amount of time, energy, and effort in assembling this complete set (minus 1). The new owner will have to fill in only the rare Joe Jackson to complete this extraordinary E90-1 American Caramel set. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grades (not including the seven Authentic cards) is $21,175. Total: 119 cards. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000/$15,000+. SOLD FOR $16,450
