Circa 1910 T218 and T227 Golf Cards Graded Collection (4)
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $1,645
Collection of four different golf cards, dating from circa 1910, representing two different popular multisport issues, each graded and encapsulated by PSA (except one SGC): 1) T218 Mecca "Champion Athletes and Prize Fighters" (3 cards): Jack Hobens (NM-MT 8, one of two graded at this level, with none graded higher), George Low (NM 7, none graded higher), and Alex Smith (NM-MT 8, Highest Graded by far! The next highest graded is a PSA EX-MT 6). The T218 set features six golfers among various other champion athletes of the era, including boxers, bowlers, billiards champions, and track-and-field stars. 2) T227 Miner's Extra "Series of Champions": Jack McDermott (SGC GOOD 30). T227 "Series of Champions" cards are unique in design, and have the look of "giant T206" baseball cards. There are only twenty-five cards in the set, including two golfers. This is an extremely attractive (and in the case of the three T218s, extremely high grade) collection of four golf cards from two of the most classic multisport tobacco sets from the early twentieth century. The SMR value for just the three T218 cards (not including the T227 SGC GOOD 30) is $3,375. Total: 4 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $1,645
