1940 R145 Gum, Inc. "Superman" PSA NM-MT 8 Collection (3)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,998

Extraordinary high-grade collection of three different 1940 "Superman" bubble-gum cards issued by Gum, Inc., each graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Gum, Inc.'s 1940 "Superman" series is one of the most popular nonsport sets ever issued. Its outstanding color, detailed artwork, popular subject matter, and the exciting adventures presented on the backs, all contribute to making this set one of nonsport collecting's all-time classics. It is also one of the few sets with tremendous crossover appeal, of great interest to comic and Superman collectors, as well as card collectors. Each card has brilliant colors with four sharp corners and near-perfect centering. This collection of NM-MT examples consists of the following: #37 "Distress At Sea" (one of five graded at this level), #46 "To The Rescue" (one of five graded at this level), and #48 "Death In The Air" (one of four graded at this level). Each of these cards is worthy of inclusion in any ultra high-grade Superman collection or set. We have found that at auction cards from extremely popular sets with very low populations in the highest grades often sell for far more than SMR, and this is especially the case with classic vintage sets such as the R145 "Superman" series. Total: 3 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++. SOLD FOR $1,998
