1910 E93 Standard Caramel Honus Wagner - Throwing - SGC NM 84
Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $7,050
Graded NM 84 by SGC. One of only two examples graded at this level by SGC with just one example graded higher. This is a stunning card! Presented is an extraordinary ultra high-grade example of Hall of Famer Honus Wagner in a throwing pose from the very popular E93 Standard Caramel series. This 30-card set was issued in 1910 by the Standard Caramel Co. of Lancaster, PA. This set is closely related to several other candy sets from the era which share the same format and, in many cases, the same player image. Bright, crisp, and perfectly clean, both front and back, with four sharp corners, a very slight natural tilt to the image, and a brilliant image of Wagner, set against a bold red background. Centered slightly to the right (approximately 70/30 L/R). The perfectly clean back features the checklist for the set. This card is in extraordinary condition, especially for a caramel card, which because they were issued with candy, one card per package, tend to survive in lesser condition than their more common tobacco-card counterparts. Of the 60 examples graded in the history of SGC, this is one of only two NM 84 examples, with only one example ever graded higher (NM-MT 88). This is a magnificent high-grade example of the legendary Honus Wagner from one of the most popular and colorful of all “E” card issues, and one that would be an extremely significant highlight in even the most advanced “E” card, Hall of Famer, Honus Wagner, or world-class prewar-card collection. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000++. SOLD FOR $7,050
