1908 A. C. Dietsche Detroit Tigers Postcard (Series 2) Complete Set Minus 1 (19 of 20)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,880

Near-complete set of nineteen (out of 20) 1908 A. C. Dietsche Detroit Tigers Postcards (Series 2). Missing only the rare Ty Cobb for completion (which is offered separately in this auction). These cards are part of an original "childhood" collection consigned to this auction by the family of the original owner. Dietsche's 1908 postcard series was produced with the same images from their 1907 series and in addition to the "1908" copyright date on the reverse, are easily distinguished by the inclusion of the player's name on the front in white or black lettering. The 1908 Dietsche Detroit Tigers Postcard series is considerably rarer than the far more well known 1907 Dietsche Tigers set. Even samples from the 1908 issue are rarely seen. In fact, this is the first complete set of this rare postcard issue that we have ever handled. This near-set (missing only Cobb, which as noted is offered separately) is highlighted by Hall of Famers Sam Crawford and Hughie Jennings. This group is in very strong condition for Dietsche Postcards, let alone 1908 series Dietsche Postcards. The cards range from Vg to Vg-Ex condition, exhibiting minor corner and edge wear, a few with light creases. All have clean unused reverses. Also included are four 1907-1909 H. M. Taylor Co. postcards: Crawford (Gd), Donovan (Vg), Jennings (Gd), and Donovan/Jennings/Chance in dugout (Fr-Gd). Total: 23 postcards (nineteen A. C. Dietsche and four H. M. Taylor postcards). Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,880
