1934 D382 Tarzan Bread Collection (11) Including Five Newly Discovered Checklist Additions!
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $9,400
1934 D382 Tarzan Bread collection of eleven different (out of the 31 subjects known to date in the set) including five newly discovered examples which appear to have never been seen before (we have found no mention of them anywhere and they are not listed in the 2011 Standard Catalog checklist). These cards are part of a small original "childhood" collection consigned to this auction by the family of the original owner and are new to the modern collecting world. Tarzan Bread cards have always been recognized as one of the rarest card issues of the 1930s (or any era). REA can recall offering only two other 1934 Tarzan Bread cards EVER: one example (Dick Coffman) was sold at REA in May 2004 (Lot 67), and the other appears as a separate lot in this auction and is unrelated to this find ("Chief" Hogsett, Lot 702). This is the largest collection of D382 Tarzan Bread cards we can ever recall seeing at one time. The collection consists of the following: Bridges (Vg), Cantwell (Vg), Cuccinello (Gd-Vg), Frankhouse (Vg), Gallivan (Vg), Hallahan (Fr), Hoag (Fr-Gd), Leonard (Vg), Melillo (Vg), Pearson (Gd), and A. Smith (Fr). The five Tarzan Bread cards that are previously unknown and new discoveries to the set are Cantwell, Frankhouse, Gallivan, Pearson, and Smith. This is an extraordinary group of these legendary rarities, all the more so due to the inclusion of an incredible five new previously uncatalogued checklist additions. Total: 11 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500++. SOLD FOR $9,400
