1910 E93 Standard Caramel Complete SGC-Graded Set (30)
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,875
Rarely seen complete set of E93 Standard Caramel, assembled long ago by a collector of many decades, with all cards graded by SGC (submitted by REA). This 30-card set was issued in 1910 by the Standard Caramel Co. of Lancaster, PA. The E93 set is closely related to several other candy sets from the era which share the same format and, in many cases, the same player image. Like most 1910-era tobacco and "E" card issues, E93 Standard Caramel Company cards each measure approximately 1.5 x 2.75 inches. The set is comprised almost exclusively of Hall of Famers and stars. All of the cards have been graded and encapsulated by SGC: One EX 60: Jones. Three VG/EX 50: Gibson, McGraw (HOF), and Leach. Six VG 40: Ames, Bender (HOF), Evers (HOF), Griffith (HOF), Joss (HOF), and Plank (HOF). Four GOOD 30: Clarke (HOF), Delehanty, Dooin, and Tinker (HOF). Six FAIR 20: Brown (HOF), Cobb (HOF), Collins (HOF), Coveleski, Mathewson (HOF), and Phillippe. Seven POOR 10: Chance (HOF), Donovan, Jennings (HOF), Pastorious, Waddell (HOF), Wagner (HOF), and Young (HOF). Three Authentic: Chase, Lajoie (HOF), and Wiltse. Because they were issued with candy to kids, one card per package, caramel cards in general tend to survive in far lesser condition than their more common tobacco-card counterparts. E93 Standard Caramel is one of the most popular and colorful of all "E" card issues. This is a very attractive mixed-grade set with many highlights and with most cards appearing better than their technically accurate SGC-assigned grades. The equivalent SMR value for 27 of the 30 SGC-graded cards (not including the three Authentic cards) is $6,060. Total: 30 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000+. SOLD FOR $5,875
