1909-1910 E97 C. A. Briggs Co. Willie Keeler - SGC EX 60
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,819
Graded EX 60 by SGC. Very attractive high-grade example of Hall of Famer Willie Keeler from this extremely rare candy issue. This 30-card set was issued in 1909-1910 by the C. A. Briggs Co. This set is closely related to several other candy sets from the era, which share the same format, and, in many cases, the same player image. The cards are very similar in design to their E93 counterparts and can most easily be distinguished by the attractive brown-printed checklist of the complete set and the advertisement for "C. A. Briggs Co., Lozenge Makers, Boston, Mass." along the bottom on the reverse of each card. As is the case with most 1910-era tobacco and “E” card issues, E97 C. A. Briggs Company cards each measure approximately 1.5 x 2.75 inches. This is a particularly desirable caramel card of Keeler as he appears in very few "E" card sets. The offered card has a brilliant image, with virtually flawless registration, light wear on the corners, and is centered a hint to the bottom with a very slight tilt to the image. The back is also bright and very clean, with bold brown text. In exceptional high-grade for a caramel card, this is a very attractive and rarely offered card of the legendary "Wee Willie" Keeler from the very scarce E97 Briggs Co. set. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,819
