1909-1911 T206 Ty Cobb SGC-Graded Collection (3)
Starting Bid - $800, Sold For - $3,819
Three of the four classic poses of Ty Cobb from the T206 White Borders series, each graded and encapsulated VG 40 by SGC. 1) Ty Cobb Green Background portrait (Piedmont reverse). The Green Background pose has long been considered the rarest of the four poses of Cobb in the T206 set. This is a very attractive Vg card with no creases and evenly rounded corners, centered to the top (approx. 20/80 T/B), and a perfectly clean reverse. 2) Ty Cobb Red Background portrait (Sweet Caporal reverse). Bright and clean, no creases and light wear on the corners. We grade this card Vg-Ex. 3) Ty Cobb bat-on-shoulder pose (Sweet Caporal reverse). The front has an Excellent appearance but this card has been downgraded by SGC due to a light surface crease in the lower portion of the back. These are very attractive mid-grade examples with great eye-appeal, highlighted by a Green Background portrait Cobb in relatively strong Vg condition. For the Cobb collector who is not interested in paying a king's ransom for cards in higher grade, but still wants very respectable original 1910-era cards of Ty Cobb, or the T206 set builder seeking to fill in these three big slots, this collection presents an exceptional opportunity and potentially represents an extraordinary value. A very attractive collection of classic Ty Cobb tobacco cards, representing three of the four Cobb cards in the T206 set. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grades is $3,115. Total: 3 cards. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500.
