1909-1911 T206 Ray Demmitt - St. Louis American Variation

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,113

Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Very attractive example of the rare Demmitt, St. Louis Americans, T206 variation, in extremely high grade for this key T206 rarity. Only eight T206 examples of Demmitt, St. Louis Americans, have ever been graded higher by PSA (three EX 5, two EX-MT 6, two NM 7, and one NM-MT 8). Polar Bear was the only company to issue this T206 variation and this fact is directly related to why Demmitt is so difficult to find in high grade. The packaged cards issued with Polar Bear tobacco were not well protected from the accompanying product; thus, almost all Demmitt cards have at least some tobacco staining. In addition to being very highly graded for a rare Demmitt, this example also happens to be a very strong and conservatively graded example which could easily have been graded Excellent. This example has absolutely no stains, a hint of corner wear (a touch more in the upper right), and a single crease in the extreme top left corner (so minor that most would hardly qualify it as a crease). Bright and crisp, both front and back, with extremely fresh colors, and perfect centering. This is a very strong and attractive example of one of the rarest cards in the classic T206 White Border set. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+.
