1909-1911 T206 White Border Printing Errors Collection (6)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,819

A fascinating group of six T206 cards with factory printing errors, three of which have escaped almost all color processes in their printing, appearing black-and-white and grey, with yellow if that color was a part of the card's design (Davis - Davis on front, Doyle - bat, and Engle). The reverse of each features a fully printed final process Sweet Caporal (350-460 series) back. The other three T206 printing errors consist of one with a ghost image (Engle, Sweet Caporal reverse), one with a "split" Sweet Caporal advertisement on the reverse (Reulbach - no glove), and one very unusual card that is close to a final process card but, similar to the first three color-printing error cards listed, escaped at least one color process and looks very unusual (Hoblitzell, fully printed Sovereign back). All are clean and crisp, each with one or two creases, with the exception of the Engle with missing colors, which has somehow miraculously escaped creasing. We believe the four color-process error cards in this lot to be printer's scraps of some kind which may not have been actually issued. It is possible that these four cards were hand-cut and saved from the trash by the printer or someone who worked for the printer. The other two cards, the Engle ghost-print and Reulbach with-error-back, appear to be cards that were factory-cut and issued but with the noted printing errors. A very substantial group of unusual, interesting, and very striking printing errors from the T206 series. Total 6 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $3,819
