1909-1911 T206 Hall of Fame SGC VG/EX 50 Collection (16)
Starting Bid - $800, Sold For - $3,231
Collection of fifteen different T206 Hall of Famers and one future "Black Sox" member (Chick Gandil), each graded and encapsulated VG/EX 50 by SGC (all submitted by REA). These cards were part of a very substantial, totally untouched collection of 1910-era tobacco cards consigned to this auction (all cards from this collection appear in several lots of the auction) that was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. All have Piedmont or Sweet Caporal backs: 1) Home Run Baker; 2) Jake Beckley; 3) Mordecai Brown - Chicago; 4) Frank Chance - red; 5) Jimmy Collins; 6) Johnny Evers - Chicago; 7) Chick Gandil - "Black Sox;" 8) Hughie Jennings - both hands; 9) Willie Keeler - port.; 10) Rube Marquard - hands at sides; 11) Christy Mathewson - dark cap; 12) John McGraw - no cap; 13) Tris Speaker; 14) Rube Waddell - port.; 15) Vic Willis - port.; 16) Vic Willis - throwing. This is a very impressive-looking group comprised exclusively of Hall of Famers and with most cards having an appearance superior to their technically accurate assigned grades. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grades is $3,900. Total: 16 cards. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500+. SOLD FOR $3,231
