1909-1911 M101-2 The Sporting News Joe Jackson
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $823
M101-2 Sporting News supplement featuring the legendary Joe Jackson. This sepia-tone premium set was issued with the Sporting News between the years 1909 and 1913. Each premium was issued on only a single day and is dated in the upper right or left. Their method of issue and thin paper stock on which they are printed make these unusual and striking premiums particularly susceptible to damage. This is the key to the M101-2 set and one of only a handful of vintage Joe Jackson issues. The Jackson premium was issued on March 23, 1911, and features the future Black Sox legend with the Cleveland Americans. The supplement has been deemed Authentic by Beckett due to being mounted to a scrapbook page; the premium has a few creases including a horizontal crease across the bottom, and few spots of paper loss (on his cheek and at the top left). There are six periodical images of ballplayers attached to the reverse. While technically in low grade, the premium has a very presentable appearance, and represents an exciting relatively affordable opportunity to acquire one of only a few card-related items of Jackson dating from his playing days. Dimensions: approximately 9.75 x 8 inches. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $823
