1911 T205 Gold Border Minor Leaguer SGC-Graded Collection (7)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,113
The Minor Leaguers have always been appreciated for their rarity and unique design, and are a popular subset to the T205 series. They have also always been listed at a significant premium in relation to regular cards in the set. Presented is a collection of seven different scarce T205 Minor Leaguers (out of the twelve cards which comprise the entire “Minor League” subset), highlighted by Hall of Famer Jimmy Collins, each graded and encapsulated by SGC. These cards were among the many highlights of a small but very significant original-owner collection of forty-nine T204 Ramlys, four T208 Firesides, fifty T206s, and sixty T205s that have never before been seen in the organized collecting world, and which are presented in several lots in this auction. The collection consists of the following: Jimmy Collins (HOF, EX/NM 80), Jack Dunn (VG/EX 50), James Frick (EX 60), Charles Hanford (EX/NM 80), Wyatt Lee (EX 60), George Merritt (EX/NM 80), and James Phelan (EX 60). Each card is bright and crisp, with deep, vibrant colors, and perfect registration. All have Hassan advertisements on the reverses. The scarcity of the Minor Leaguers has always made putting together a complete T205 set particularly difficult. This is an extremely impressive collection of Minor Leaguers, very high quality across the board, with most cards having an appearance superior to their technically accurate assigned grades. The equivalent SMR value for these seven SGC-graded cards is $2,670. Total: 7 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,113
