1911 M116 Sporting Life SGC-Graded Collection (50)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,113

Collection of forty-nine different cards (plus one duplicate, for a total of 50 cards) from the 1911 M116 Sporting Life set, highlighted by ten Hall of Famers, of which four are from the "Blue Background" series. All fifty cards have been graded and encapsulated by SGC: One NM 84: Fletcher. Five EX/NM 80: Adams, R. Collins, Demmitt, McBride, and McIntire (McIntyre). Four EX+ 70: Dooin, Jones, McQuillan (Phila.), and Miller. Fifteen EX 60: Brown (HOF, blue), Engle, Killifer, McInnes, McQuillan (Phila.), McQuillan (blue), Pfiester, Ray, Steinfeldt, Stone, Strunk, Sullivan, Sweeney (Boston), Turner, and Zwilling. Fourteen VG/EX 50: Bresnahan (HOF, blue), Devore, Donahue, Ewing, Hartzell, McGraw (HOF), Mitchell, Pernoll, Schlei, Smith (Chicago), Suggs, Tannehill, Tinker (HOF), and Titus. Seven VG 40: Bender (HOF, blue), E. Collins (HOF, blue), H. Davis (blue), Jennings (HOF, pastel), Myers, Shafer, and Zimmerman. One GOOD 30: Mack (HOF). One FAIR 20: Bliss. Two Authentic: Baker (HOF) and Brown (HOF, pastel). Each card is bright and clean both front and back, and with boldly printed reverses. Many collectors consider M116 to represent one of the era's most exceptional values. Despite being so similar in design to, and far rarer than, their T206 counterparts, according to price guides they are assigned substantially lower values in price guides. This is a very impressive-looking group with most cards having an appearance superior to their technically accurate assigned grades. The equivalent SMR value for the group (not including the two Hall of Famers encapsulated Authentic) is $4,971. Total: 50 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $3,000++. SOLD FOR $4,113
