1911 M116 Sporting Life Hall of Fame PSA Collection (3)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,644

Collection of three key Hall of Famers (all pastel variations) from the 1911 M116 Sporting Life set. All three cards have been graded and encapsulated by PSA: Ty Cobb (EX 5), Frank Chance (NM 7; rare "Over 300 Subjects" back), and Cy Young (VG 3; Black back). Each card is well centered with square corners, and with boldly printed reverses. Cobb is slightly overgraded in our opinion due to a couple of tiny spots of surface paper loss on the reverse. It is still a great-looking card. Chance is a gem and is beautifully centered approximately 55/45 L/R. Young is an extremely sharp, crisp card, with a much stronger appearance than suggested by the grade, and is centered 35/65 L/R. Many collectors consider M116 one of the era's most exceptional values. Despite being so similar in design to their T206 counterparts, M116s in general are actually far rarer. In comparing the price guide values of M116s and T206 cards of the same Hall of Famers in the same grades, it is hard not to appreciate the outstanding value of the three quality Hall of Fame Sporting Life cards in this lot. The SMR value for the group is $3,050. Total: 3 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $2,644
