1911 T332 Helmar Stamps Collection (109 Different)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,410
Collection of 109 of these very colorful stamps issued by Helmar Tobacco, representing 60% of the total of 181 known players in the set. Included are twelve Hall of Famers: Bender, Bresnahan, Carey, Chance, Evers, Griffith, Huggins, Jennings, Marquard, McGraw, Wallace, and Wheat. The 1910 era presented many different types of tobacco issues for collectors. In addition to cards there were Domino Discs, P2 pins, silks, and various premiums available only by mail (T3, L1, S81) among others. Helmar stamps are certainly one of the more unusual and overlooked issues of the day, and are considerably rarer than many more popular and widely collected tobacco issues. The balance of the collection consists of the following: Archer, Austin, Ball, Barger, Barry, Beck, Becker, Bell, Bliss, Block, Bridwell, Brown, Burns, Bush, Byrne, Callahan, Carrigan, Cicotte ("Black Sox"), Clarke, Crandall, Cree, Dahlen, Daubert, Davis, Delahanty, Devlin, Donovan, Dougherty, Downey, Drucke, Evans, Fletcher, Ford, Fromme, Gibson, Graham, Grant, Gray, Groom, Hauser, Hoblitzell, Hummel, Jones, Kling, Knabe, Knight, Konetchy, Krause, LaPorte, Leach, Leifeld, Livingston, Lobert, Magee, Mattern, McBride, McLean, Meyers, McIntyre, Mitchell, Moore, Moran, Moriarty, Mullin, Murphy, Murray, Needham, Oldring, Parent, Paskert, Powell, Quinn, Reulbach, Rowan, Rucker, Schaefer, Scanlan, Schulte, Shafer, Shean, Sheckard, Snodgrass, Stange, Steele, Stovall, Suggs, Sweeney, Tannehill, Thomas, Titus, Turner, Vaughn, Wagner, White, Willett, Wiltse, and Wolverton. Condition Composite: thirty-nine stamps are clean with no back damage including Bresnahan and Marquard; twenty-nine have glue residue or back damage including Chance and Wheat; twenty-seven are glued to scraps of notebook paper including Bender, Griffith, Huggins, Jennings, McGraw and Wallace; and fourteen are glued to scraps of thick cardboard including Brown, Carey, and Evers. This is an uncommonly large group for this issue, which in part due to its rarity has received little attention from collectors. A great start towards a set of these very colorful and very overlooked 1910-era tobacco premiums. Total: 109 stamps. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,410
