1911 T3 Turkey Red SGC-Graded Hall of Famers Collection (3) Including Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $8,225

Three different Hall of Famers, including Ty Cobb and Christy Mathewson from the T3 Turkey Red cabinet series, each of which has been graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). These cards were part of a very substantial totally untouched collection of 1910-era tobacco cards consigned to this auction (all cards from this collection appear in several lots of the auction), which was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. This is a very sharp-looking trio. All have checklist backs. 1) #4 Roger Bresnahan (VG/EX 50); 2) 9 Ty Cobb (VG/EX 50. Bright and crisp, with brilliant bold colors, and perfect registration. There are a few light surface creases, mostly visible from the reverse. This is a very impressive and very fairly graded example.); 3) 27 Christy Mathewson (GOOD 30. Stain in the lower right corner, otherwise Vg-Ex). Turkey Red cabinets are universally recognized as one the most highly regarded and beautiful baseball-card issues ever produced. This is a very striking group including Ty Cobb, the most valuable card in the set. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grades is $11,075. Total: 3 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000++. SOLD FOR $8,225
