1912 T207 Brown Background Collection Including Walter Johnson (51 cards)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,938

Collection of fifty-one assorted (thirty-five different and sixteen duplicates) T207 Brown Background cards, all with Recruit backs, highlighted by three Hall of Famers: Walter Johnson, Joe Tinker, and Chief Bender. This is an overall fairly clean original-owner collection with several notable highlights. 75% range in grade from Vg to Ex (averaging Vg-Ex), 25% grading Gd and slightly lesser. We have selected three cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. The collection is highlighted by six Hall of Famers: Chief Bender (SGC VG/EX 50), Walter Johnson (SGC EX 60, extremely well centered with a virtually flawless image), and four Joe Tinker (SGC VG/EX 50, two Vg, Fr). The balance of the cards grade as follows: Vg to Ex (33 cards): Barry, Crandall, Ferry (2), Fletcher, Gardner (2), Konetchy (2), Krause, Latham, Lennox (2), McIntire, McLean, Miller/Pitt., Morgan, Olson, Reulbach (3), Scanlon (2), Schulte, Severoid, Smith, Snodgrass, Street, Warhop (3), Wilie, and Williams. Gd and slightly lesser (12 cards): Crandall, Derrick, Dooin, Doyle, Fletcher, Oldring, Schulte, Simon, Strunk, Vaughn, Williams, and Wiltse. Most cards have a stronger appearance than the technically accurate assigned grades (which is usually the case with T207s). This T207 collection represents 18% of the set (plus duplicates for trading), including key card Walter Johnson, and could provide a strong foundation for collecting this classic tobacco-card issue. The equivalent SMR value for just the three SGC-graded cards (not including the forty-eight ungraded cards) is $1,850. Total: 51 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $2,938
