1909-1912 PX7 Sweet Caporal Domino Discs Collection (80)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,998

This circa 1910 PX7 Sweet Caporal Domino Discs collection of eighty assorted (62 different out of 129 players in the set, sixteen of eighteen duplicates represent different color and image variations) is highlighted by eleven Hall of Famers including Nap Lajoie and two Tris Speakers. 70% range from Vg to Ex, 30% in lesser grades (mostly Gd). The PX7 Sweet Caporal Domino Discs set is one of the most interesting, substantial, and most overlooked of all baseball tobacco inserts. This classic 1910-era issue includes almost all of the great stars and Hall of Famers of the era. The collection consists of the following: Baker (HOF), two Ball (blue w/large image and green w/small image), Barry, Becker, two Bescher (green and blue), Birmingham, two Bresnahan (HOF, blue w/large image and red w/small image), Byrne, Camnitz, Cicotte ("Black Sox"), Collins (HOF), Cree, Devore, Dougherty, two Downey (blue and red), Engle, Gaspar, Gibson, two Grant (both red), two Groom (blue w/large image and green w/small image), Hauser, two Hoblitzell (red and green), Hoffman, Huggins (HOF), two Hummel (red w/large image and blue w/small image), Karger, Knight, Konetchy, Lajoie (HOF), LaPorte, Leever, Lord, Maddox, two Magee (both blue), Marquard (HOF), two Mattern (green and red), two McIntire (green w/large image and green w/small image), McIntyre, two Meyers (green w/large image and green w/small image), Milan, Miller, two Needham (red w/large image and red w/small image), two Oldring (red w/large image and red w/small image), Paskert, Pelty, Phillippe, Reulbach, Richie, two Rowan (blue w/large image and green w/small image), Scanlon, Schaefer, Schulte, two Speaker (HOF, green w/large image and green w/small image), Stovall, two Street (red w/large image and red w/small image), Thomas, two Warhop (red w/large image and green w/small image), Wallace (HOF), Walsh (HOF), Wilson (dark cap, Pirates), Wilson (white cap, Giants), and Wiltse. Domino Discs are substantially rarer than card issues such as T205 and T206 (or even P2 pins) that were issued with tobacco in the same era. Because cards naturally get most of the attention among tobacco inserts, in our opinion Domino Discs represent one of the best values of all 1910-era baseball tobacco issues. Total: 80 discs. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $1,998
