1909-1912 PX7 Sweet Caporal Domino Discs Collection (72)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,233
This circa 1910 PX7 Sweet Caporal Domino Discs collection of seventy-two different (out of 129 different players in the set) is highlighted by eleven Hall of Famers, including Cy Young and John McGraw. The PX7 Sweet Caporal Domino Discs set is one of the most interesting, substantial, and most overlooked of all baseball tobacco inserts. This classic 1910-era issue includes almost all of the great stars and Hall of Famers of the era. The collection is comprised of the following: Ames, Archer, Austin, Baker (HOF), Bender (HOF), Bergen, Bescher, Bresnahan (HOF), Bridwell, Byrne, Camnitz, Cicotte, Clarke (HOF), Crandall, Dahlen, Delahanty, Devlin, Devore, Dougherty, Downey, Doyle, Drucke, Engle, Erwin, Evers (HOF), Ferguson, Gaspar, Gibson, Griffith (HOF), Harmon, Hartsel, Hoblitzell, Kargar, Knight, Krause, LaPorte, Leach, Leever, Livingston, Lobert, Lord, Marquard (HOF), Mattern, McBride, McGraw (HOF), McIntire, McIntyre, Milan, Miller, Mitchell, Murray, Oakes, Oldring, Parent, Phelps, Phillippe, Quinn, Rowan, Scanlon, Schmidt, Sheckard, Smith, Street, Suggs, Thomas, Tinker (HOF), Titus, Turner, Walsh (HOF), White, Wiltse, and Young (HOF). 50% are EX, 50% range from Fr to Vg-Ex (with approximately equal distribution at each grade level; this is a great-looking group but these are a little tougher to grade than cards). Domino Discs are substantially rarer than card issues such as T205 and T206 (or even P2 pins) that were issued with tobacco in the same era. Because cards naturally get most of the attention among tobacco inserts, in our opinion Domino Discs represent one of the best values of all 1910-era baseball tobacco issues. Total: 80 discs. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $2,233
