1913-1933 Zeenut Collection with Coupons Including Lombardi (66)

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $14,100

Collection of sixty-six rare Zeenut PCL cards, spanning the years 1913 to 1933, representing twelve different sets, each with the original coupon attached to the bottom. While a Zeenut collection in which every card still has its coupon attached is by definition a collection comprised exclusively of highlights, of special note is the inclusion of Hall of Famer Ernie Lombardi's second-year card. This is an outstanding group assembled by a pioneer old-time collector over a period of many years. Zeenuts are scarce to begin with, but rarely survive with coupons intact. The coupons were intended to be cut off by youngsters and redeemed for prizes. This is a spectacular and amazing group of Zeenut candy cards with tabs intact. 1) 1913 Zeenut: Young (Fr). 2) 1914 Zeenut (4 cards): Fisher (Pr), Klepfler (Fr), Meek (Vg), and Mohler (Vg). 3) 1919 Zeenut: Hosp (paper loss on back, otherwise Ex). 4) 1920 Zeenut: Cunningham (paper loss on back, otherwise Vg). 5) 1927 Zeenut (2 cards): Shinners (date is "27"; Ex-Mt) and Whitney (Fr). 6) 1928 Zeenut (10 cards): Baldwin (Vg-Ex/Ex), Bigbee (Los Angeles; Gd), Bigbee (Portland; Gd), Davis (Vg), Hoffman (Gd-Vg), Johnson (Portland; Gd-Vg), Keefe (paper loss on back, otherwise Ex), LeBourveau (Vg-Ex), Martin (Missions; paper loss on back, otherwise Ex), and Mellano (Gd). 7) 1929 Zeenut (7 cards): Graham (paper loss on back, otherwise Ex), Jolley (Gd), Kallio (Gd), Krasovich (Fr-Gd), Lombardi (HOF; paper loss on back, otherwise Ex), Rohwer (Gd), and Scott (Gd). 8) 1930 Zeenut (14 cards): Bates (Gd), Brannon (Fr), Burns (Gd), Donovan (Vg), Johnson (Portland; Gd), Knight (Fr-Gd), Leishman (Gd), Leiber (Gd), Mails (Fr-Gd), McLaughlin (tiny chips of paper loss on the bottom edge of the reverse, otherwise Ex), Palmisano (Gd), Powles (Vg), Ricci (Gd), and Schino (corners clipped). 9) 1931 Zeenut (10 cards): Backer (Vg-Ex), Baker (Ex), Dondero (Fr), Flagstead (Fr-Gd), Lipanovic (Vg), McDonald (Vg-Ex), Posedel (Vg/Vg-Ex), Wise (Vg), Woodall (Fr), and Yerkes (Fr). 10) 1932 Zeenut (10 cards): Blackerby (Vg), Brubaker (Ex), Callaghan (Ex), Garibaldi (Gd), Johnson (Portland; Gd), Shellenback (Pr), Uhalt (light surface crease in lower left, otherwise Ex), Welsh (Ex), Wise (Ex), and Yde (expiration date clipped off). 11) 1933 Zeenut (sepia) (5 cards): Almada (Ex), Brubaker (Ex-Mt), Galan (Ex-Mt), Ludolph (Ex), and Zinn (Vg/Vg-Ex). 12) 1933-1936 Zeenut: Eckhardt (large pose; Pr). All of the cards have a much stronger appearance than suggested by their technically accurate assigned grades, and most have been downgraded due to paper loss on the reverse (most likely from scrapbook removal). This is a very substantial collection of extremely desirable and rarely seen Zeenuts with tabs spanning three decades. Total: 66 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+.
