1916 BF2 Ferguson Bakery Felt Pennant Collection Including Five Joe Jackson Examples - Newly Discovered Find! (37)
Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $9,400
Stunning ultra high-grade, pristine find of thirty-seven 1916 BF2 Ferguson Bakery Felt Pennants (15 different players), including five examples of Joe Jackson, five examples of "Chic" Gandil, and four examples of Charles Comiskey. This incredible newly discovered group (it has never before been seen in the collecting world) was saved by a noncollecting family. They were originally put aside for safekeeping by our consignor's grandmother. The entire group has been neatly stored away for decades (probably since 1916) in an old chocolate box. The condition is extremely strong. 70% range from Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, 30% are slightly lesser. The 1916 BF2 Ferguson Bakery pennants are one of the most unusual, interesting, and displayable issues of the era. These pennants (each 5.5 inches tall) were issued as a premiums with Ferguson Bakery products and are designed with a photograph of a given star affixed to a felt pennant with the player's name and team identified below. The BF2 set uses the same player images as the M101-4/5 Sporting News sets. There are several different background color variations for each subject. As can easily be seen, this collection is literally loaded with highlights, in part because of the heavy duplication. This is an extraordinary group, both in terms of players and condition. When the grading companies get around to evaluating BF2s, collectors will look back on a fresh group like this and wish they had a time machine. The collection consists of the following (colors refer to backgrounds): four Charles Comiskey (all white), Coveleski (white), Devore (orange), three Dubuc (all purple), five "Chic" Gandil ("Black Sox" member, two gray and three black), five Gedeon (one purple and four orange), Miller Huggins (reddish-orange), five Joe Jackson (one gray and four black), James (reddish-orange), Hugh Jennings (white), five Judge (all gray), Killefer (purple), McInnis (white), Merkle (sky blue), and two Moran (dark blue). By any measure, BF2s represent one of the very best values of all 1910-era baseball issues. This is a particularly attractive high-grade collection of these colorful premiums, with a remarkably high concentration of key stars, and highlighted by an incredible FIVE sharp examples of key pennant Joe Jackson. Total: 37 pennants. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000++. SOLD FOR $9,400
