1922 V61 Neilson's Chocolate (Type I) #37 Babe Ruth - SGC EX/NM 80 - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $5,288

Graded EX/NM 80 by SGC. Highest-graded example by SGC or PSA! (The highest-graded example by PSA is a VG-EX 4.) Extremely high grade example of one of Ruth's truly great early 1920s cards. The V61 Neilson's Chocolate series is one of the most substantial and overlooked sets from the 1920s. This is the key card from the set and one of Ruth's earliest cards featuring him with the Yankees. The card is bright and crisp, with no creases, four sharp corners, outstanding picture quality, a flawless surface, and a flawless reverse. Centered slightly to the right (approximately 65/35 L/R). It is interesting to note that this card was produced utilizing the same design and image as the American Caramel E120 series. The V61 Neilson's Chocolate set is numbered (Ruth is #37). Issued one card per chocolate bar, Neilson's Chocolate cards are almost never found in high grade. Few cards of Ruth date from the early 1920s. This outstanding high-grade Babe Ruth card, dating from the early 1920s (an era in which few cards sets of any quality were issued), represents an extraordinary combination of rarity and superb condition. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $5,288
