1925 Drake's Yankee Cakes #61 Babe Ruth - Extremely Rare!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,938

Graded VG 40 by SGC. Rarely offered example of this classic Babe Ruth card dating from the heart of Ruth's Hall of Fame career. Babe Ruth is the only baseball player to appear in this rare nonsport issue featuring prominent movie stars. Ruth earned his place in this set as the star of a series of instructional shorts produced by Universal Studios in the early 1920s. Babe Ruth is card #61. This series of cards is rarely found in high grade due to their method of issue (one card per package of Drake's "Yankee Cakes") and their thin stock, which is very susceptible to creasing. This is a very attractive VG example with a sharp portrait image of Ruth, four square corners displaying light wear, several creases mostly in the border area, and light toning on the reverse. Few cards of Ruth date from the 1920s. This outstanding Babe Ruth card, dating from the heart of the career of the great “Bambino," is far rarer than, and potentially represents a remarkable value in comparison to, gum cards of Ruth from the 1930s. One of the most interesting and overlooked of all Babe Ruth rarities, this is a card worthy of inclusion in any world-class card collection. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $2,938
