1933 R319 Goudey #1 Benny Bengough - PSA NM 7

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,525

Graded NM 7 by PSA. Only eight examples have ever been graded higher by PSA. High-grade example of 1933 Goudey card #1 Benny Bengough, the key condition rarity of the 1930s. #1 Bengough is so difficult to find even in mid-grade, let alone high grade, because card #1 tended to gravitate toward the top of the stack when collected and organized by kids in 1933, and thus was naturally subjected to the most wear. Today, almost all 1933 Goudey set collectors have no choice but to settle for a low-grade example of #1 Bengough. Even a Vg Bengough is very respectable and commands a substantial premium. In fact, a glance at the PSA Population report for this card shows that an extremely high percentage of Bengoughs (70%) range from Poor to Vg. Vg-Ex is an extremely high grade for Bengough. Higher-grade PSA examples are very few and far between. This is a tremendous high-grade example which would be a significant upgrade or addition to virtually any PSA-graded 1933 Goudey collection. Centered 75/25 L/R, bright and clean, free of creases and surface wear (the small yellow mark to the right in the background is a natural print mark), with brilliant colors and with strong corners. This is an exceptionally highly graded example of one of card collecting's most elusive and sought-after condition rarities. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000+. SOLD FOR $3,525
