1933 R319 Goudey #149 Babe Ruth - SGC NM 84
Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $8,813
Graded NM 84 by SGC. One of only nine examples graded at this level; of the 202 examples graded by SGC to date, only nine have graded higher! Extraordinary ultra high-grade example of one of Babe Ruth's most popular cards, #149 Ruth with red background from the 1933 Goudey series. This card is a pack-fresh gem! At a glance the the SGC grade alone tells us that this is one of the best 1933 Goudey #149 Ruth examples ever graded, but this card happens to have an incredible sharpness and crispness that would normally be associated with an even higher grade (NM-MT or MINT) example. In fact, that is the case. Only the centering (it is centered slightly to the upper right) keeps this gem from an even higher grade. The card has four razor-sharp corners, perfect printing registration, flawless colors, and a flawless surface. It is perfectly crisp and clean, both front and back, with an extremely bold, flawlessly printed reverse. This is a magnificent ultra high-grade example of one Babe Ruth's most important and highly prized baseball cards. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grade is $10,500. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $8,813
