1887 N184 W. S. Kimball Champions Baseball Complete Set (4) in Framed Display

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $823

Outstanding bright and clean complete set of all four baseball players from the unusual and scarce 1887 N184 W. S. Kimball & Co.'s "Champions of Games and Sports" series, beautifully mounted in a framed display (14 x 7 inches). Without reference to being mounted the grades are as follows: E. A. Burch (Gd), Dell Darling (Vg), Hardie Henderson (Gd), and James O'Neil (Fr). All four cards are very attractive, with vibrant colors, and flawless registration. This set was framed by our consignor decades ago (when cards were very modest in value) for a decorative living-room display and it has served its purpose well for all these years. Kimballs are considered by many to be one of the most beautiful of all the nineteenth-century tobacco issues. The set features champions and stars of the day from a wide variety of sports. Although the baseball players featured in the set are not Hall of Famers, each was a very popular star at the time. This is a very attractive group of four cards ready for display from one of the most stunning and beautifully designed of all nineteenth-century tobacco issues. Total: 4 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $823
