1934-1936 R318 Batter-Up SGC-Graded High-Numbers Collection including Six HOF (18)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,293

Collection of eighteen different 1934-1936 R318 Batter-Up rare high number (#81-192) cards including six Hall of Famers, highlighted by Leo Durocher and Frankie Frisch, all graded and encapsulated by SGC: One EX/NM 80: #181 Rolfe. Seven EX+ 70: #83, 86 Gomez (HOF), 88, 123, 126 Ferrell (HOF), 174, and 186. Ten EX 60: #102, 128, 141, 152, 156 Durocher (HOF), 161, 162, 173 Frisch (HOF), 179 Bottomley (HOF), and 180 Jackson (HOF). The R318 Batter-Up set is universally recognized as one of the most significant of all prewar baseball-card issues. Their striking colors, unusual standup design, and rarity compared to other 1930s sets make Batter-Ups one of the most fascinating, distinctive, and difficult-to-complete of all sets from the 1930s. Cards from this set are very difficult to find in high grade. These cards are designed with die-cut backgrounds that can be punched out and folded back to allow each card to stand up. Because of this design, many R318s are naturally found in damaged condition, and in many cases are found with the die-cut backgrounds entirely lost. All of the card backgrounds in this collection are complete and intact. This is a very attractive high-grade collection of eighteen rare high-number cards, highlighted by six Hall of Famers, which could make a important contribution to the assembly of a high-grade R318 set or serve as a very impressive representation of the issue. The equivalent SMR value for the group is $2,345 (there is no SMR value for the EX+ 5.5 grade, so the seven examples graded at this level were calculated using the EX 5 value). Total: 18 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $1,293
